Meet the Designer, Fabio Di Bartolomei
Born in Udine (Italy), where he presently lives and works, Fabio di Bartolomei founded his own firm of interior decoration which cooperates with other design firms in New York (USA), Brendale, Brisbane, Qld (Australia) and Warsaw (Poland). He works mainly in the field of architecture and interior design, projecting buildings and pieces of furniture both public and private. The guidelines of his creative thinking are related mainly to the requirements human beings have in relationship to the habitat they live in. From these evaluations he has developed a harmonic balance between design and functionality, which is clearly represented in his design works. He is active in industrial design, graphic projects, interior decoration, and exhibition presentations.
The Portata™ Design Story…
Design a chair that appears soft to the eye, but rigid in strength.
Fabio's goal with Portata was to create a chair that would appear soft to the eye although being made of a rigid and highly technological material. To achieve this, the designer created a texture that renews the ancient technique of leather working, “Capitoné”, redesigning it in a contemporary way. The elegant and soft shape perfectly matches with the wooden legs, steel and cast aluminum or desk on casters, enhancing the characteristics giving life to a collection suitable for contract and home environment.

Shell is constructed of rigid polyurethane and is available in 3 color options: warm white, anthracite, bi-color; warm white exterior, taupe on the interior
Four-leg metal and sled base side chairs are constructed of tubular steel and available in anthracite, warm white, or polished aluminum
Natural beech wood legs are available on side chairs. The metal frame under the shell matches shell color
The 5-star swivel base gives 5" of height adjustment and swivels 360° (no tilt). The base is polished aluminum with black polyurethane, anti-stain, non-marking, halo casters
