PANTONE 2021 Color of the Year: A Message of Happiness

2020 threw us for a loop (to say the least) and we think it’s safe to say we are all ready to leave the uncertainty of 2020 behind us. As the new year has approached, so has the 2021 Pantone Color. However this time, we are given not one, but TWO new colors: PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating.

PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is the positivity we want while PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray is the strength we need. Together they bring us hope, hope that from here on out, everything will become brighter. PANTONE states “The union of an enduring ultimate gray with the vibrant yellow illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same tine warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”

When designing any space with color, it’s important not to overwhelm the room with it, especially with such rich in tone colors as Ultimate Gray + Illuminating. These colors are great to use as accent colors. Ultimate Gray can be used for a more mild palette while Illuminating should be used sparsely (think accent pillows).
